Wanted: Bitcoiners to fight extreme poverty on the ground in Uganda.
Bitcoiners: you are the people who make possible what isn’t possible under humanity’s old ways. Help us fight extreme poverty by working directly with us on the ground here in Kamuli, eastern Uganda, to install a grain cleaning, drying and storage facility.
We will inscribe the words “Made Possible By Bitcoin” on this facility’s main building!
Our region Busoga, in eastern Uganda, is the epitome of Sub Saharan African poverty.
Being a farming community, though, reliable markets and improved postharvest systems is all that the poorest households need to get on a self-sustainable footing from poverty.
We are inviting Bitcoiners from anywhere in the world to come work directly with us on the ground here in Kamuli to install a grain cleaning, drying and storage facility that will help stop postharvest losses and create new market linkages for smallholder farmers.
This facility will cost 12 BTC, and we want to handle this money with you — pay for all equipment, technical personnel, and account for every penny spent at every step — till this facility is complete. Let’s do it! To you, this may be a by-the-way adventure: getting to see life in rural Africa firsthand. But to the ultra poor in our region, it will mean a lot.

Current work:
Our nonprofit, the Uganda Community Farm (UCF), itself started by another rural farmer, is running a sorghum project where we provide rural poor farmers in our region with initial inputs (seed, tarpaulins, spray pumps etc) — as seen in the photos below.
But building reliable market linkages for our produce is the only thing that will give these farmers a steady income stream, and thus the ability to use their own resources to secure the needed inputs on their own, placing them on a self-sustainable path from poverty. This is where the grain facility we are asking you to help us install will help.

As seen in these photos, the UCF is currently providing the poorest rural households in our region with training, and free inputs — only as a hand-up. But true self-sustainability will only come from access to reliable markets. This is the help we are asking of you.
